AVENUE travelled to Bulgaria to participate in the International Day for Young people
The out-of-national border mission of the mobile Nest of AVENUE and R.S.I. Panos Mylonas was come off undoubted success.
In particular, the Greek mobile Nest travelled to Bulgariawithin the framework of the ‘AVENUE’ program {Actions for Vulnerable, Elderly, Novice Drivers and road Users in Europe} which is supported by the European Commission and is coordinated by the R.S.I. Panos Mylonas. Nevertheless Bulgaria, our neighboring country, is one of the 9 member-states that participate in this program and the body Open Youth is one of the 13 bodies that aim at sensitizing the vulnerable social groups such as the young people for whom August 12th is dedicated to the International Day for Young People.
On the occasion of this Day, the Bulgarian National Centre of ‘European Programs and Initiatives for Young People’, organized an extremely interesting event right in the heart of Sofia, at the park in front of the National Palace of Culture, which is the largest Conference and Exhibition Centre in Southeastern Europe. There, the kiosk for the prevention of road accidents which was created with the cooperation of the Open Youth and the R.S.I. Panos Mylonas, stood in a prominent place. Hundreds of Bulgarians and many Greeks used the excellent simulators of inversion and crash of the R.S.I. Panos Mylonas and took interesting advice on road safety by our qualified experts.
Open Youth focussed on the issue of economic driving and gave relevant advice during the use of a driving simulator. Great emphasis was put to the avoidance of consuming alcohol prior to driving, one of the modern nuisances which has led to a great number of road crashes and has cost the lives of many people {mainly in the age group 16-29}.
The Bulgarian Youth, Sports Minister, Prof. Mariana Georgieva honored with her presence this event, which was part of the Youth Exhibition. Apart from the kiosk for the road safety, the Minister visited other kiosks too which have organized several activities for young people {painting, music}. During the event, the participants had the chance to enjoy gifts and various surprises.
It is noticed that Bulgaria and Greece are among the countries that hold the biggest percentages of road accidents with loss of human life, quite above the European average.
