Road Safety Institute “RSI - Panos Mylonas” celebrates 10 years of action

RSI "Panos Mylonas" completed 10 years of action in the sector of road safety. Following the tragic and unfair death of Panos Mylonas, an Organization that has a significant and active role in the prevention of road accidents was created. RSI’ s work, recognized not only in Greece but internationally as well, was presented on December 17th, 2015 at Zappeion Megaron in the presence of distinguished guests, friends and associates of the Institute, as well as many representatives of institutional, social entities and Organizations.

AVENUE participates at the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan for the Road Safety Practices

AVENUE, R.S.I. “Panos Mylonas” and the global initiative “Scouting for Global Road Safety” we are welcomed with great enthusiasm at the 23rd World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) which took place from July 28th to August 8th 2015 in Japan. The Road Safety Institute participated as a partner of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) under the auspices of the United Nations, and was kindly hosted by the Scouts Association of Japan (SAJ). Its major objective was to inform young people about road safety issues and also to conduct a major research initiative on their road safety and driving attitudes and behaviors.

AVENUE travelled to Bulgaria to participate in the International Day for Young people

The out-of-national border mission of the mobile Nest of AVENUE and R.S.I. Panos Mylonas was come off undoubted success.
In particular, the Greek mobile Nest travelled to Bulgariawithin the framework of the ‘AVENUE’ program {Actions for Vulnerable, Elderly, Novice Drivers and road Users in Europe} which is supported by the European Commission and is coordinated by the R.S.I. Panos Mylonas. Nevertheless Bulgaria, our neighboring country, is one of the 9 member-states that participate in this program and the body Open Youth is one of the 13 bodies that aim at sensitizing the vulnerable social groups such as the young people for whom August 12th is dedicated to the International Day for Young People.

Presentation and Demonstration of road safety equipment from the R.S.I. “Panos Mylonas”

Road Safety Institute (R.S.I.) “Panos Mylonas” in cooperation with the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) has presented the European Programme, AVENUE (Actions for Vulnerable, Elderly, Novice Drivers and road Users in Europe) for Traffic Safety. This programme initiated by R.S.I. and supported by the European Commission (DG MOVE) aims to educate and mobilize citizens through experiential activities and the creation of NESTs (Networks & Education for Safety andTraffic). 9 European countries are participating in the project: Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Spain, Luxembourg, Holland, Poland, under the coordination of R.S.I.
Divided in three parts the event started with the presentations of partners’ best practices on road safety, continued with the European Citizen’s Award presented to R.S.I.’s President Mrs Vassiliki Danelli – Mylonas and came to its end with the presentation and demonstration of the educational equipment that R.S.I. “Panos Mylonas” acquired for the establishment of the NESTs (National, Local, Mobile); the presentation was attended by journalists, corporate members, Traffic Police Officers, politicians and European Partners from 23 countries.

13th European Transport Safety Lecture

The European Transport Safety Council together with the Road Safety Institute Panos Mylonas organised the 13th European Transport Safety Lecture on "Distracted Driving", which took place in Athens, in November 7th, 2011. The lecture will be delivered by Associate Professor George Yannis, NTUA, with a response by Prof. Oliver Carsten of the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds. Driver distraction is an important factor driving up the risk of road collisions worldwide. Researchers claim that some source of driver distraction is reported in up to 30% of road accidents.
