Scouting for Global Road Safety
This initiative of R.S.I was organised in close cooperation with Scouting Ireland and Greek Scouts. It was held under the auspices of United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), during World Scout Jamboree 2011 in Rinkabi, Sweden.
R.S.I along with Irish and Greek Scouts designed and implemented special workshops on road safety. In six days, more than 3500 young scouts from around the world were informed through active involvement on issues concerning road safety. Additionally, a very successful event was organized during the closing ceremony called “Joining Hands for Road Safety”. During the event, young scouts from 160 countries created a human circle by joining hands and holding letters, spreading the message for road safety.
For the particular event, R.S.I and more specifically young George Mylonas composed a song especially for the young. The song was called called "Together Make it Loud". This song was heard for the first time during the event “Joining Hands for Road Safety”. This program was endorsed in the UN Global Decade of Action for Road Safety.
The initiative of RSI "Panos Mylonas" "Scouting for Global Road Safety" attracted the attention of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and has led to the continuation of support in the framework of " Decade of Action for Road Safety »(UN Decade of Action for Road Safety ) 2011 - 2020. The initiative was included in the Resolution of the UN General Assembly A/66/389. The event was also described in the Spectrum Magazine of UNECE.
